Ivan Klasnic scored Bolton’s first

Newcastle midfielder Hatem Ben Arfa was cleared of serious injury after he was taken from the field on a stretcher during his side’s goalless draw with Kansas City.

The France international missed most of last season after suffering a horrific broken leg against Manchester City last October. The 24-year-old only just returned from the injury against Darlington last week and their were concerns in the Magpies’ camp when he went down in the first half holding the lower part of the left leg that kept him sidelined.

Early reports, however, suggested he had only suffered a slight twist of his ankle with the club set to conduct further tests when the player returns to England.

Bolton completed their three-game tour of the USA with a comfortable 2-0 win over Houston Dynamo. Kevin Davies set up Ivan Klasnic for the game’s opener on 31 minutes before the veteran completed the scoring with a tap-in following Martin Petrov’s pin-point cross.

Everton made a forgettable start to their tour of the United States after they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Philadelphia Union in sweltering conditions. Teenager Christian Hernandez scored the match winner three minutes from the end and the visitors’ evening was further soured when John Heitinga saw red in injury time for a second caution.

Defeat was tough on Everton, who will complete their brief tour against DC United on Saturday, with striker Jermaine Beckford spurning their best chance after a clever ball from the impressive Mikel Arteta.
