Manchester City midfielder Gareth Barry faces missing the start of the season.

Barry flew to a leading specialist in Munich on Monday amid concerns he may miss the start of Manchester City‘s title defence, says the Daily Mail.

The England midfielder was ruled out of last month’s European Championship after tearing a muscle in his lower abdomen against Norway in Oslo at the end of May.

City bosses booked him in to see pioneering surgeon Dr Ulrike Muschaweck, who runs her own hernia centre in Munich and specialises in abdominal muscle injuries. She is likely to decide an operation is needed after an initial examination yesterday, and that it could lead to Barry being sidelined for up to a fortnight.
